Information on Seminar

The seminar on “The Outsiders’ Role for Peace in the South” will  focus on Peace and Security; especially issues in the southern border provinces of Thailand.

The seminar is a collaborative effort between Center for Social Development Studies (CSDS), Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University and Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies, Mahidol University. It will explore the roles of outsiders such as academic, civil society, media and policy makers not  living in the area. It will also explore their contribution towards peace in the Southern border provinces of Thailand.

Women and gender issues will be also incorporated in this seminar especially around the role of women in peace processes and peace-building.

Objectives

The main objectives for this seminar as follows:

  • Generate public analysis and knowledge on roles of outsiders and general public in Thai society. This is to contribute to peace process and peace-building in the Southern Thailand among scholars and practitioners.
  • Promote dialogue and collaborative networking among stakeholders from different sectors concerned with conflict and peace process in the Southern Thailand.
  • Advocate and raise public awareness on involvement of outsiders and citizen in Thai society for peace-building in Southern Thailand.
