Human rights in Southeast Asia: Series Five – Pushing the Boundaries

Human rights in Southeast Asia: Series Five - Pushing the BoundariesPushing the Boundaries – Despite an extensive international and regional framework for the promotion and protection of human rights violations, sometime serious, continue threatening peace and security as admirably documented in some of the essays compiled in this publication. Though the ASEAN Charter and the TOR provide for promotion and protection of human rights protection it is hindered by the non-interference in the internal affairs of ASEAN member States provided in the same Charter and the TOR.

The essays compiled in this publication addresses a wide range of topics like the pros and cons of the South African truth and reconciliation process; rights of children to participate in matters affecting their lives; Civil Society Organisations participation in the drafting processes of ASEAN instruments; women participation in politics in Cambodia; analysis of the manner which the Little India riots in December 2013 were handled by the authorities in Singapore; the impact of economic liberalization on trade unions in Vietnam; and the marginalization of undocumented migrant workers in Malaysia.
