National Seminar in Indonesia – Human Rights and Eco-Social Justice

THE 3RD SEPAHAM NATIONAL CONFERENCEPalu, Sulawesi, Indonesia1-2 March 2017SHAPE-SEA supported the 3^rd SEPAHAM National Conference titled Human Rights and Eco-Social Justice. Human Rights and Eco-Social Justice is quite relevant to Indonesian context, which has many human rights abuses in relation to corruption, excessive exploitation of natural resources, and impunity. To address the issues facing Indonesia, a two-day national seminar at the Tadulako University in Palu, Sulawesi, Indonesia.The format of the two- day conference included-Two keynotes

1. Political of Law on Natural Resources Management, delivered by Representative from Ministry of Environmental and Forestry
2. Human Rights and Eco-Social Justice: Political of Law Agenda?, delivered by Sandra Moniaga, SH. (Commissioner of Indonesian National Human Rights Commission)

Two Plenaries

“Academic Freedom and Human Rights”, delivered by Dr. Abdul Wahid (Department of History, University of Gadjah Mada) and Dr. Herlambang P. Wiratraman (HRLS Faculty of Law, Airlangga University)

“Indigenous Peoples and Human Rights”, delivered by Prof Dr. Achmad Sodiki (Professor of Law, Constitutional Court Judges), Dr. Rikardo Simarmata (Djojodiguno Institute for Adat Law, University of Gadjah Mada), Amran, SH. (Merah Putih Foundation, Palu), and  a discussant: Martje Leninda, SH. (Bantaya Legal Aid Institute, Palu)

   Ten panels 

Human Rights and Governance; Business and Human Rights; Free Expression, Media and Its Legal-Political Development; Past Human Rights Abuses, Politics, and Law; Freedom of Religion and Faith, and Its Legal-Political to Protect Minorities; Academic Freedom and Human Rights; Human Rights and Political Economy Regionalism; Natural Resources Sovereign, Human Rights and Indigenous Peoples; Impunity and The Protection of Human Rights Defender; and Human Rights and Its Various Context of Political-Economy

 Attended by more than 200 people over two days, the audience was mostly lecturers and researchers from various faculties, human rights centres, university students,as well as, non-governmental organisations, journalists and policy makers. The national conference was covered by media – local and national newspapers and broadcasting media. The largest national newspapers – Kompas and SCTV sent their journalist and reporters/cameraman from Jakarta for covering the activity in Palu.Articles:
