AUN-HRE hosts 9th Annual Regional Lecturer Workshop, tackles Right to Development, Gender, and Migration through an Intersectional Lens

Bangkok, Thailand — The ASEAN University Network–Human Rights Education convenes lecturers and National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) representatives for the 9th Annual Regional Lecturer Workshop under the theme: “Transformative Human Rights Education and an Intersectional Approach to Teaching the Right to Development, Migration, and Gender.”

This flagship annual lecturer workshop provides a platform for educators across the region to exchange ideas, share practices, and enhance their capacity to teach complex human rights issues from an inclusive and intersectional perspective.

“Now more than ever, universities must rise to the challenge of shaping not only minds, but values,” said Dr. Vachararutai Boontinand, Convener of AUN–HRE. “We need institutions that don’t just teach about rights and peace, but live them. It’s time we reimagine our universities as inclusive, critical spaces that empower young people to challenge injustice, ask difficult questions… we prepare students and societies to face the region’s most urgent challenges with courage, compassion, and a deep sense of responsibility.”

The workshop will not only equip educators with techniques and tools to teach human rights but also highlight how the right to development, gender equality, and migration are deeply interconnected. Participants will be able to address the overlapping challenges faced by marginalized communities, ensuring that human rights education reflects lived realities across Southeast Asia.

This workshop is supported by the Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies, Norwegian Center for Human Rights, University of Oslo, and the Strengthening Human Rights and Peace Research and Education in ASEAN/Southeast Asia programme.
