The ASEAN University Network–Human Rights Education (AUN-HRE), hosted by the Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies (IHRP), Mahidol University, successfully convened the 10th Annual Regional Lecturer Workshop on Teaching Peace and Human Rights from 13–16 July 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand. This year’s workshop focused on teaching peace and transformative peacebuilding, bringing together 20 lecturers and educators from across Southeast Asia to strengthen their knowledge, teaching practices, and regional networks.
Co-organized by Universiti Sains Malaysia and the SHAPE-SEA Programme, with support from the Norwegian Centre for Human Rights and Mahidol University, the four-day workshop provided an interactive platform for participants to explore contemporary approaches to peace education. Through expert-led discussions, collaborative learning, and practical exercises, participants examined conflict analysis and mapping, conflict resolution models, and the interconnections between peace and human rights.

The workshop also highlighted the importance of integrating gender perspectives and the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Agenda into peacebuilding and peace education. Participants engaged in mediation simulations, participatory teaching methodologies, and collaborative curriculum design, equipping them with practical tools to strengthen peace education in their respective institutions and communities.
The workshop concluded with presentations of participants’ individual and collective peace education initiatives and course syllabi, demonstrating how the knowledge and skills gained will be translated into classrooms and learning spaces throughout the region. These presentations reflected AUN-HRE’s commitment to fostering innovative, inclusive, and context-responsive approaches to peace and human rights education.
AUN-HRE is convened by Dr. Vachararutai Boontinand of the Institute of Human Rights and Peace Studies, Mahidol University, with Dr. Kalpalata Dutta serving as Education Manager.
