RESEARCH GRANTS SCHEMES 2026 MILESTONES

Fifteen Southeast Asian scholars, one shared mission. The SHAPE-SEA Research Grant Schemes Inception Workshop was held from 20–22 July 2026 at the Mandarin Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. Selected from a highly competitive pool of applicants, the RGS 2026 grantees represented the next generation of Southeast Asian researchers working to address the region’s most pressing human rights and peace challenges. Over three days, the grantees worked alongside mentors and fellow researchers, beginning with a Gallery Walk and Research Mapping Exercise where they presented their projects and identified areas of shared interest. This was followed by discussions that situated their research within the broader landscape of human rights and peace scholarship in Southeast Asia. The workshop also featured a hands-on Research Design and Methodology Clinic, which supported grantees in strengthening their research designs and addressing ethical considerations. An experience-sharing session further explored the realities of moving from research proposals to fieldwork and translating findings into meaningful contributions for communities and policymakers. The three-day workshop laid a strong foundation for the RGS 2026 research journey, fostering exchange, collaboration, and solidarity among a new generation of Southeast Asian scholars.
